Cooking for learning – Best Chocolate chip cookies

That is my favorite recipe. We have to be careful when preparing it. We tend to add more ingredites since the dough is not hard. The butter has to be in room temperature. Do not add some more all-purpose flour, resist it! If you don’t have chocolate chips, chop up some semisweet chocolate bar, and voila! It is basically the same.

Kids will definitely love preparing these delicious cookies with you.

Chocolate chip cookies

Ingredients2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour

1/2 teaspoon baking soda

1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, room temperature

1/2 cup granulated sugar

1 cup packed light-brown sugar

1 teaspoon salt

2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract

2 large eggs

2 cups (about 12 ounces) semisweet and/or milk chocolate chips

Directions

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. In a small bowl, whisk together the flour and baking soda; set aside. In the bowl of an electric mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, combine the butter with both sugars; beat on medium speed until light and fluffy. Reduce speed to low; add the salt, vanilla, and eggs. Beat until well mixed, about 1 minute. Add flour mixture; mix until just combined. Stir in the chocolate chips.

Drop heaping tablespoon-size balls of dough about 2 inches apart on baking sheets lined with parchment paper.

Bake until cookies are golden around the edges, but still soft in the center, 8 to 10 minutes. Remove from oven, and let cool on baking sheet 1 to 2 minutes. Transfer to a wire rack, and let cool completely. Store cookies in an airtight container at room temperature up to 1 week.

The Earth book – by Todd Parr

If you want literature to work along with environmental issues and solutions for that, I recommend this book by Todd Parr called: The Earth book.

It is very pedagogical, since there are simple ways in which kids can help the Earth by doing things that are related to their daily lives.

We have done these cute crafts that ended up being a mini book. Kids loved that.

They also created solutions inside of their mini books that can be applied in daily basis such as: turning off lights after leaving the room, turning off the TV when they are using tablets, etc.

Have fun and use your imagination!

Teaching Social Skills for Recess

Any teacher in the world has no relationship issues at recess time. Major issues, simple ones, they are always around.

I came across this book when I was not even looking for it, which is a good sign, it is always time to teach social skills.

We read it, Kids didn’t blink . It was nice. At certain time, they started getting annoyed with one of the character’s manners.

After all, we talked. We had a great time together.

Wall of fame – Keep the good attitudes in the classroom

Kids were up to a great craft, they keep on asking fun classes all the time.

Crafts just for the sake of it. To relax, talk to friends and to learn how to walk on good attitudes.

You can work with whatever good attitudes that can describe them the most. You can brainstorm something in the board and voili! They choose whatever it is that matches to them, and write on the craft.
